Together, we build better lives

We partner with families in Houghton, Baraga, and Keweenaw counties to assist with access to safe and affordable housing. Our housing solutions include new home construction and rehabilitation of homes in need of critical repairs. In addition, we provide ramp installation services to disabled and elderly.

Habitat for Humanity is a partnership, not a giveaway program—families buy the houses that Habitat builds and renovates. Habitat homeowners also invest hundreds of hours of their own labor working alongside volunteers. As a result, Habitat for Humanity houses are affordable to low-income families in our own community, as well as across the world.

Our Vision

A world where everyone has a

decent place to live.

Our Mission

Seeking to put God’s love into action,

Habitat for Humanity brings people together

to build homes, communities, and hope.

  • Families in need of decent, affordable housing apply for homeownership with us.

Our family selection committee selects homeowners based on three criteria:

    1. The applicant’s level of need

    2. Their willingness to partner with Habitat.

    3. Their ability to repay a mortgage through an affordable payment plan

Habitat’s homebuyers invest hundreds of hours of their own labor, called sweat equity, working alongside volunteers and other Habitat homeowners, in addition to paying an affordable mortgage and receiving financial education.

Habitat for Humanity follows a nondiscriminatory policy of family selection. Neither race nor religion is a factor in choosing Habitat’s homeowners.

  • People in your community and all over the world partner with Habitat to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage.

In addition, we offer programs that rehabilitate homes and provide ramps to those in need.

  • It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world.
